Monday 10/12: Cooking Demo: Sausages at New Holland Brewing Company- A ticketed event, hosted by Pub on 8th Sous Chef, Brian Proctor. From purchasing the ingredients, to making the sausage, to finding the perfect recipe, and how to case the sausage – this is a hands-on course for attendees to learn all the basics of sausage-making. Tuesday 10/13: Knickerbocker Fall Film Series: Meet the Patels- This film follows Ravi Patel, a single Indian-American who is approaching 30 on his journey to find a soul mate. After breaking up with a white American woman, Ravi goes on a family vacation in India where he contemplates his family’s tradition – Patels marry other Patels. His parents convince Ravi to embark on a year-long process to find the American Patel that is his match. Wednesday 10/14: Past Present East West: Highlights from the Permanent Collection at Hope College- Past Present East West: Highlights from the Permanent Collection” is evenly split between art from Europe and the Americas and art from Asia. The objects in the exhibition have been selected to demonstrate the breadth and educational value of the collection. Most of the artworks have been acquired by Hope in the last five years. 271 Columbia Ave., Holland; 10am-4pm; Free.
Thursday 10/15: Pedal for Purple at The Commons of Evergreen- Pedal for Purple is a stationary bike-a-thon to support programs for Parkinson’s at The Commons. You can join a pedaling team, donate to the cause or create a pedaling event at your place of business to raise funds for Parkinson’s programs. 480 State Street, Holland; 8am – 2pm; $20 for Bikers, $5 for Purple Pancake Breakfast.
Friday 10/16: Holland Contra Dance at the Ottawa County Fairgrounds- Join the Allegan Woods Folk Arts Cooperative for live music & dancing at the Holland Contra dance! You need not bring a partner, but bring all your friends! Contra dancing is easily learned, and a great American tradition being rediscovered across the country! 1286 Ottawa Beach Rd, Holland; 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM; $5/person, family max $15.
Saturday 10/17: Deep Greens & Blues Live at the Curragh- Deep Greens & Blues is an indie folk rock band based in Grand Rapids, MI. Blending eclectic musical backgrounds and influences, the band came together in 2010 to create their own flavor of mixed vocal acoustic rock. The band originated from friendships forged in a church band, and grew to a regularly performing ensemble in West Michigan and a debut album in June 2013. 73 East Eighth Street, Holland; 9pm-1am; Free.
Sunday 10/18: Dusk to Dusk: Unsettled, Unraveled, Unreal at DePree Art Center and Gallery- The exhibition is a collaborative project between the De Pree Gallery and the Grand Valley State University Art Gallery. This exhibition of global, contemporary art aims to turn a mirror on the collective world, examining individual isolation, political repression, and collective ennui during the decline of the industrial age. 160 East 12th St, Holland; 1-5pm; Free.
