HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Ottawa County Sheriff’s Deputies say they have investigated three cases of people huffing while driving. In all three cases their cars either wound up hitting trees like the first two cases, or in Sunday’s incident, sheering off a power pole.
Their “huff” of choice was a product in an aerosol can that is designed to clean keyboards. Sgt. Steve Austin says they call it “duster” and say it creates an artificial high by temporarily depriving the brain of oxygen, killing brain cells.
Sunday’s crash was near Coopersville. Another occurred two weeks ago in Georgetown Township, and the third in July in Jamestown Township. Their latest suspect had his car totaled, suffered injuries and has now been charged with operating while intoxicated.
