HART, MI (WHTC) – An arrangement is pending for an unnamed Zeeland-area man in his mid-20’s charged with a misdemeanor for shooting a black bear sow, accompanied by her cubs, in the Manistee National Forest. The Oceana County Prosecutor’s Office issued the arrest warrant after the September 23rd incident in which the hunter, described as “experienced” with a valid license, initially claimed that he gunned down the animal by herself, only to recant once state DNR officers investigated the incident. If found guilty, the man could lose all hunting privileges for three years, along with 90 days in jail.
