JAMESTOWN TWP, MI (WHTC) – Ottawa County Deputies were dispatched to a car versus motorcycle accident at Byron Road and 8th Avenue in Jamestown Township yesterday evening.
Investigation shows that Tyler Westrate, 21, of Byron Center was driving a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix and did came to a stop at the intersection but failed to yield to Grandville resident Bruce Wolfert, 72 who was driving his 2003 motorcycle.
The intersection requires that all north and southbound traffic on 8th Avenue stop and yield to east and west bound traffic of Byron Road.
Accordning to Sgt. Brian Buter with the Ottawa County Sherrif’s Office, after Westrate failed to yield to Wolfert, he pulled out, struck Wolfert’s motorcycle forcing him off the roadway and into the northeast corner of the intersection.
Wolfert was injured and is listed in serious at Spectrum in downtown Grand Rapids.
Westrate sought his own medical attention, but was not injured in the crash.
The incident remains under investigation.
