LANSING, MI (WHTC) – Traveling in Michigan should be easier this Labor Day weekend with MDOT suspending work on 114 of the 155 active road construction projects around the state. The orange barrels will be pushed to the side of the road starting this afternoon until early Tuesday morning.
The biggest problem drivers will face is if they are headed North as there will be a 12-mile detour on US-31 in Emmet County due to pavement that collapsed due to erosion from an underground spring.
That’s 25 miles south of the Mackinac Bridge and the detour will delay those heading to take part in the Labor Day walk across the Mackinac Bridge. More than 40,000 walkers are expected to participate in this year’s Labor Day bridge walk with Governor Rick Snyder leading the way on Monday.
