GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC) – Employers in West Michigan are encouraged to contact Michigan Works for guidance in submitting applications for Skilled Trades Training Fund grants.
The Skilled Trades Training Fund was created in 2013 and in the last two years over $3 million in funding was awarded to employers in West Michigan to address their hiring challenges.
With the funding Genzink Steel In Holland was able to train 67% of their workforce in blue print reading and Geometric Tolerance and Dimensioning. The training elevated the skill set of existing workers and allowed business growth into additional high-demand market segments.
Although the state application will not be available until October 1st, employers are encouraged to connect with a Business Solutions Representative to create a training plan. Employers can email business@westmiworks.org for more information.
