8/24 Monday: Zeelmania: Free Family Fun in Downtown Zeeland- This week’s event features a Tomato Collection Puppet Show , an Injury Prevention Program, a Toddler Bike Course, Sock Puppet Crafts, Face painting, inflatable fun, and more! 21 S. Elm Street, City Hall, Zeeland; 6-8pm; Free.
8/25 Tuesday: Gather: A Celebration of Local Food at Windmill Island Gardens- Local First and the Holland Farmers Market invite you to the second annual Gather Event, a celebration of local food. During Gather, chefs from area restaurants will partner with local vendors from the Holland Farmers Market to create an unforgettable tasting experience. Guests are invited to stroll from one table to the next during this roaming dinner, sampling delectable small plates and enjoying beverages from Coppercraft Distillery, Fenn Valley Vineyards, Virtue Cider, and New Holland Brewing Co. While dining, guests will have the opportunity to meet both the farmer who grew the food they are enjoying and the chef who carefully prepared the freshly grown ingredients. The cocktail-party atmosphere will allow guests to mingle while enjoying live music and the beautiful scenery of the island. A small pop-up market will also be on site where guests can purchase produce and products sold at the Holland Farmers Market. All proceeds from Gather will benefit programming at Local First and the Holland Farmers Market. 7th Street and Lincoln Avenue, Holland; 6-8pm; $30.
8/26 Wednesday: MI Arts: All Michigan All Media Visual Art Competition at the Holland Area Arts Council- Over 80 artists from across the state submitted nearly 200 pieces in mediums spanning two dimensional and three dimensional art. Seventy-five pieces were selected, including acrylic, oil and watercolor paintings, wood and ceramics sculptures, photographs, pastel drawings, prints and textiles. The exhibition will the run through October 23. 150 E 8th St, Holland; 10am -3pm; Free.
8/27 Thursday: Bugs, Slugs and Spiders at the Outdoor Discovery Center- Hike with a naturalist in search of creepy, crawly and slimy invertebrates. The group will use collection nets as they explore the meadows, woods and wetlands of the ODC Nature Preserve. All collection materials will be provided. Registration is required. 4214 56th Street, Holland; 10-11am; $4 per person, FREE to members.
8/28 Friday: Shorebirds Field Trip- Shorebirds are on their way south for the winter. Intercept and identify a variety of them on this day-long field trip to several sites in the Holland area. Details of locations will be emailed once you’ve registered. 7am- 3pm; Students $5; Early Adult Registration (by 8/14) is $15 and $10 more for a companion; After 8/14, Adults $20, companion $15.
8/29 Saturday: Vintage Boat Show at Kollen Park & Heinz Waterfront Walkway- This year is the 10th Annual Vintage Boat Show! The Holland Museum is hosting the event in the lower parking lot of Kollen Park (near Boatwerks) situated along the Holland waterfront. This highly anticipated glimpse into the history of West Michigan’s boating industry showcases historic boats made from both wood and fiberglass. This is a family-friendly event; round up your family’s skipper and sailors! Free ice cream and kids activities will be offered, including a station to create paper paddleboats for a large water tank race. 240 Kollen Park Drive, Holland; 10am-4pm; Free.
8/30 Sunday: Funky Buddha Outdoor Community Class at Centennial Park- The last one of the summer! Grass. Sky. Sun. Yoga. Head to Centennial Park in Holland for 60 minutes of summer heat, grassy feet and yoga love this Sunday from 7:30-8:30 pm. This Power Vinyasa class is free to attend and will be taught by our staff and trainees. Remember to dress for the weather and bring your yoga essentials. Funky Buddha will notify yogis via social media if classes are affected due to severe weather.
