HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Salsa can come in many ways: Mild, medium, hot, and melt-your-face-off spicy. Today, salsa connoisseurs from all over the lakeshore can come to the Holland Farmers Market to sample countless types of salsa and vote for their favorite.
Presented by Boar’s Head, Visser Farms, Festida Food, and Taylor Rental, the Holland Farmers Market Salsa Showdown will highlight both amateur and professional chefs and will challenge contestants to create the best salsa recipe using the fresh ingredients found at the Market.
Starting at 9 a.m today, the contestants will start preparing their salsa for a judges tasting at 11 a.m. After the judges have tried all of the salsa, the contestants will then give out samples of their salsa to the public with an unlimited supply of chips.
For $3, the public can vote for their favorite salsa recipe. Also during the Salsa Showdown there will be at jalapeno eating contest for those who can’t get enough of the heat. The awards ceremony begins at 1:30 p.m. today.
