HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A catastrophic failure of a main distillation unit at a BP refinery in Whiting Indiana has shot up the price of wholesale gas up 90 cents a gallon. The price of gas could rise to $3.19 a gallon by this afternoon in West Michigan.
The refinery is the largest in the midwest according to Gas Buddy Dot Com’s Patrick DeHaan. It is now running at less than 50 percent capacity. DeHaan says the refinery could be down for several weeks.
Once the refinery is repaired, DeHaan says prices will drop and he still predicts prices below $2.00 a gallon by November.
