8/3 Monday: Book signing: “The Adventures of Onyx” by Tyler Benson at Tin Ceiling- Ensign Tyler Benson is a member of the US Coast Guard currently stationed in Norfolk, VA as a trainer of future members of the Coast Guard. He began writing short stories about his search and rescue adventures in the Coast Guard to educate his four children about what daddy does when he goes on duty 48 hours at a time. 10 E. 8th Street, Holland; 11:00 AM- 1:00 PM; Free.
8/4 Tuesday: 2015 National Night Out at Kollen Park & Heinz Waterfront Walkway- Show your support for local police-community partnerships and safe neighborhoods. Activities include music & entertainment, kids’ games and pie eating contest, dunk tank, food, and a vintage car show. 240 Kollen Park Drive, Holland; 5pm; Free.
8/5 Wednesday: Hope Summer Repertory Theatre presents “Smokey Joe’s Cafe” at DeWitt Theatre. Join HSRT for a poppin’, rockin’, and bluesy good time. Leiber and Stroller’s, Smokey Joe’s Cafe features nearly 40 of the greatest songs ever recorded. The hits include, Jailhouse Rock, Charlie Brown, There Goes My Baby, Stand By Me, and Spanish Harlem. 8/6 Thursday: Sultry Summer Evening Painting Party at The Holland Area Arts Council- This is not your standard wine and canvas party; it’s a feast for the senses! Wine, cheese, fresh artisanal breads, paint and live music will surround you in our beautiful Padnos Gallery. We provide the paint, canvas and expert instruction. Beginners will benefit from step-by-step instructions, and more independent painters can explore with guidance. Bring your friends or a date. 8/7 Friday: Downtown Sidewalk Sales in Downtown Holland- Head to Downtown Holland for the biggest sale of the year! Over a hundred merchants will bring thousands of great deals outdoors for savvy shoppers. You’ll find amazing bargains from Downtown Holland’s unique collection of gift shops, clothing boutiques, art galleries, specialty stores, and more. 8/8 Saturday: Holland State Park Stewardship Day- Volunteer with Holland State Park to pull invasive species out of the sand dunes. Meet at the channel picnic tables immediately to the left of the entrance booths. 2215 Ottawa Beach Rd, Holland; 9-11:00 am; Recreation Passport Required.
8/9 Sunday: Dalriada Live at the Curragh- Dál Riata (also Dalriada or Dalriata) was a Gaelic overkingdom on the western coast of Scotland with some territory on the northeast coast of Ireland. In the late 6th and early 7th century it encompassed roughly what is now Argyll and Bute and Lochaber in Scotland and also County Antrim in Ireland.
