UNDATED (WHTC) – It’s Meeting Monday along the Lakeshore, with three sessions of note.
The Holland Board of Education this evening is expected to vote on authorizing Superintendent Dr. Brian Davis to begin negotiating with potential buyers for the vacant Washington School property off of 11th Street, along with accepting Holland High Band Director James Hughes’ resignation; he had been at the post for two years following the retirement of long-time leader Charles Bullard. Tonight’s board meeting is at 7 PM at the district’s offices on the Holland High campus off of West 24th Street.
Work on expanding Zeeland’s Clean Water Plant could be given the green light by City Council members tonight. Grand River Construction says it can build the project that would more than double the current 1.65 million gallon per day capacity for nearly 11.7 million dollars; the low bid was more than six percent above the city engineer’s estimate. Council will also vote on establishing a 13.9 million-dollar budget for the work, with costs shared with both Holland and Zeeland townships.
The South Haven City Council tonight should approve a four percent hike in residential electricity rates, retroactive to July 1st, while maintaining commercial customers’ fees and reducing bills for Commercial Power and industrial energy users by three percent. The Board of Public Utilities cited higher fuel costs and an open access transmission tariff increase as reasons for the rate request. South Haven’s council will also consider possible enforcement changes to the city’s long grass code.
