GRAND HAVEN TWP., MI (WHTC) – A four-year-old Grand Haven Township girl died on Tuesday afternoon of injuries suffered in a Sunday evening incident at her home. First responders were called to a residence on Sunset Place, in a mobile home community off of Mercury Drive near 144th Avenue, around 6:30 PM. The child was found unresponsive by her mother after left alone playing in her room and her stepfather called for help; both of them are cooperating with detectives. Deputies believe that Mikayla Rae VanderLaan may have become entangled by clothes hanging from the back of a door, but no final determination has been made. Anyone with any further information is asked to contact Silent Observer.
