HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – What better way to celebrate the summer solstice today than getting outside and enjoying the weather while also taking care of your body? Funky Buddha, a yoga hothouse based in Grand Rapids, is commemorating the longest day of the year today by hosting the 5th Annual Funky Buddha Summer Solstice outdoor yoga session.
The yoga instructors at Funky Buddha are planning to hold a two hour class in Downtown Holland’s Centennial Park, where everyone from young kids to experienced adults can find their inner peace. The instructors will lead the class in 108 sun salutations, which are a sequence of yoga poses developed to promote flexibility of the body and to calm the mind.
Melissa Barr, Director of marketing and communication for Funky Buddha’s Holland Town Center location, says she’s super excited about the event. “This will be our first time doing the event outside, so we’re expecting a lot of people to show up.” Between 50 and 80 people are expected to set up yoga mats and towels in the middle of Centennial Park tonight at 7 PM, and even more might come if the weather stays nice.
Funky Buddha is also holding a Summer Solstice session at Wilcox Park in the Eastown area of Grand Rapids. This event is free to everyone and is slated to end around 9pm. Attendees are encouraged to bring a yoga mat or towel and plenty of water.
