HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – The last Holland City Council regular business session presided over by Mayor Kurt Dykstra is this evening. He steps down at the end of the month to become the new President of Trinity Christian College in the Chicagoland area. Dykstra has been on Council since 2005, and was elected Mayor four years later. Mayor Pro Tem Bob Vande Vusse will succeed Dykstra until the November 3rd election, when he will run against fellow Councilwoman Nancy DeBoer for a full two-year mayoral term.
While it is Dykstra’s final Holland City Council meeting as Mayor, this evening’s session has some items of note on the agenda. The proposal to extend Central Avenue’s sidewalk snowmelt to the Commons of Evergreen, along with the transfer of a municipal greenhouse to the Commons, will be considered after a public hearing. Also on tap is an amendment to align Holland’s fair housing accommodations ordinances with federal and state laws for those with disabilities.
