HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC) – A two-vehicle crash during the morning commute today may have lingering effects for US-31 motorists heading south towards Holland.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant David VanderPloeg, an unnamed 16-year-old Holland-area boy had halted his eastbound car on Ransom Street at the highway around 7:30 AM. As he went forward from from the stop sign, he pulled into the path of a southbound semi, driven by 25-year-old Jared Bosch of Holland. The collision caused the truck’s fuel tank to rupture, spilling between 100 and 200 gallons of diesel fuel onto the roadway. One lane was blocked for about two and a half hours for clean-up operations, and Sgt. VanderPloeg said that additional closures may be needed to fully clean up the site.
The teen suffered bumps and bruises but refused treatment at the scene, while Bosch wasn’t hurt. Both drivers were buckled up at the time. The crash remains under investigation.
