6/15 Monday: Strawberry Extravaganza at Visser Farms U-Pick Strawberries- Free rides, free face painting, free raffle, free hot dogs and u-pick strawberries! 7530 112th Ave Holland; 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM; Free.
6/16 Tuesday: Finding Nature at Ransom Street Park- Hike with a naturalist to learn about all things natural including plants, animals, rocks and water. This is great program for your little ones where by using their natural curiosity, magnifiers and other investigation tools they will see what they can at the park. All materials will be provided. 6/17 Wednesday: HSRT Children’s Performance Troupe presents “Jingle ARRGH the Way!” at DeWitt Theatre- The “How I Became a Pirate” crew is back! A mysterious message left in the crow’s nest of their ship brings Captain Braid Beard and his pirate mates back to North Beach to seek out young Jeremy Jacob to help solve a riddle and find the Christmas treasure. Favorite characters, a rollicking story, great songs, and a trip to the North Pole to find “you know who.” 141 East 12th Street, Holland; 10:30am; $15 General Admission.
6/18 Thursday: Bluegrass Jam Session at The Holland Area Arts Council- The Holland Area Arts Council and the Hope College Music Department have cooked up another partnership idea! You’ve loved the Brown Bag Lunch concerts, and now, under the leadership of Hope’s Nate Roberts, we are offering the community the opportunity to experience American folk music with our new series, Bluegrass Jam Sessions! On the third Thursday of every month, a House Band of area musicians will play at the Arts Council for backup. We welcome you to bring your own instruments and join in. The first hour (from 5:30 to 6:30) will be designated specifically as a “Slow Jam,” so musicians of all levels should feel welcome to come and play! There will be lots of sharing musical traditions, but most of all – lots of fun! Or you can come to just enjoy the music! 150 E 8th St, Holland; 5:30-8:00 p.m.; Free.
6/19 Friday: Spielberg Series: Close Encounters of the Third Kind at The Park Theatre- A film showing of one of Director Steven Spielberg’s best work. 248 South River Avenue, Holland; Doors 7:30pm; Film 8:00pm; $5.
6/20 Saturday: Juneteenth Celebration 2015 at Kollen Park & Heinz Waterfront Walkway- “Juneteenth or June 19, 1865, is celebrated as the date when enslavement ended in America. Although the rumors of freedom were widespread prior to this, actual emancipation did not come until General Gordon Granger came to Galveston, Texas and issued General Order #3 on the “19th of June,” almost two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.” Events include Keynote Speaker: Vanessa Green, Special Guest Janice Allen with FOX TV, Zion Lion Reggae Band, Jeri Wade Band, Re-Birth, any many more performers. 240 Kollen Park Drive, Holland; 1-8pm; Free.
