HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – For the second time in less than two years, the Economy Inn at U.S. 31 and East 16th Street is being shut down over code violations.
The City Council voted unanimously to reject the appeal of the Economy Inn and last month denied renewal of the inn’s lodging license for 2015-16 over numerous violations that were found in February and in the followup inspection in April.
City inspectors say violations included missing or non-working smoke detectors, a broken toilet seat and in one room, shower temperatures that turned scalding hot when the toilet was flushed.
The city had pulled the Economy Inn’s lodging license in late 2013 over code violations and disturbance complaints, but reinstated the license four months later. The motel’s attorney, who just learned of the situation 10 days ago, asked for a two-week delay to review the inspection reports, but was rejected.
Residents have to days to vacate.
