GEORGETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC) – Two separate one-car crashes has sent a Jenison man to the hospital then to the Ottawa County jail pending arraignment.
According to Ottawa County Sgt. J. Douglas, sheriff’s were dispatched to the intersection of Cottonwood and 10th Avenue overnight. The first crash occured when a 2000 white Subaru station wagon was headed eastbound on Cottonwood Drive when it ran off the roadway to the left and struck a utility pole. The utility pole then came to rest in the travel portion of the roadway.
The driver of this vehicle whose name is being withheld, received minor injuries and was taken to Zeeland Community hospital for treatment before being released and lodged at the Ottawa County jail for misdemeanor charges.
The second crash occured when a 2006 Ford Taurus driven by Tyler Hoezee, 19, of Jenison, was traveling westbound on Cottonwood Drive and struck the utility pole that was lying in the road from the first crash.
The impast caused the Taurus to overturn several times before coming to rest on it’s roof in the eastbound lane. Hoezee was not injured in the crash or cited in the incident.
Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts and Consumers Energy worked overnight to remove the power lines and the utility pole from the roadway.
The crash remains under investigation.
