GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC) – A 44-year-old Grand Rapids man was sentenced to more than 12½ years in federal prison for robbing the Fifth Third Bank branch off of East 9th Street in Holland last May of over 19 hundred dollars, along with taking about a grand from a Chase Bank branch inside of the Alpine Avenue Meijer Store four days later. John Barrera pled guilty in deal with prosecutors, but still could have received as much as two decades behind bars due to having two previous bank robbery convictions.
