HUDSONVILLE, MI (WHTC) – Work on renovating the eastbound I-196 bridge over 22nd Avenue on Hudsonville’s eastern city limits was a factor in a two-vehicle crash on Thursday afternoon.
According to Sheriff’s deputies, 55-year-old Gregory Mashak was towing a trailer behind his vehicle as he slowed for the construction backup around the 32nd Avenue exit about a mile away from the bridge. Jack Balliet, a 75-year-old South Haven man, came up from behind and didn’t slow down in time. His vehicle careened off of Mashak’s trailer into the median and overturned.
Balliet was taken to Holland Hospital for treatment of a minor facial injury, while Mashak wasn’t hurt. The crash remains under investigation.
