NUNICA, MI (WHTC) – The name of the victim who was electrocuted at his home yesterday has been released. Jason Bearut, 43, of Nunica was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Sgt. John Wolffis of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and firefighters responded to 11845 Apple Drive in Crockery Township after a woman inside the residence call 911 upon finding her husband unresponsive in the front yard.
Bearut was working on his house when a device called a SkyTrak telehandler contacted a power line. The two firefighters who responded then used an automated external defibrillator and were shocked,
The first firefighter who was working on Bearut, fell back into the other firefighter, who was also shocked. The initial shock on firefighter One caused him to go into cardiac arrest, but a second unit was able to find an older AED to revive him.
Firefighter One was transported to Mercy hospital in Muskegon where he remains in stable condition. Firefighter Two was treated at the scene and released.
Crockery Township Fire Department is not releasing the names of the injured firefighters.
The incident remains under investigation.
