SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC) – The Saugatuck City Council tonight will be asked to approve an ordinance amendment that “addresses issues concerning congestion of streets and sidewalks and risks to safe pedestrian movement, traffic flow and delivery of emergency services and access to businesses in the downtown business district.” This law apparently is in response to an ACLU lawsuit against the city on behalf of two local college students, one of whom was arrested, for playing music on downtown sidewalks last summer. That litigation was reportedly settled out of court in March.
