HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Tulip Time brings out the natural beauty of the city of Holland, and nothing captures that beauty more than Holland’s local artists. For five years, Tulip Time and the Holland Area Arts Council has teamed up to hold a contest for artists to showcase their Tulip City pride, known as the Art in Bloom Poster Competition.
This years’ winner was local artist and photagrapher Carolyn Stich. Stich works out of an art studio and retail shop in downtown Holland, where she has illustrated 10 children’s books as well as commisioned work for West Michigan businesses for the last 15 years.
Stich’s poster, titled “Joy of Spring” was inspired by this Georgia O’Keefe quote: “I found I could not say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way.” The poster was chosen from a total of 20 finalists by juror Steve Nelson, an Associate Professor of Art at Hope College.
You can see “Joy of Spring” as well as the other 19 poster finalists on display at the Holland Area Arts Council on May 6 and May 7 from 10 am-8 pm, along with May 8 from 10 am 5 pm. Attendees can vote for their favorite poster to win the title of “Viewers Choice” by texting their vote at a provided number. The winner will be announced at the Holland Area Arts Council on May 9 at 10 am.
