JENISON, MI (WHTC) – Work has begun on installing a new religious-themed sign at Jenison’s Hager Park. A 48-year-old sign featuring the text of Psalm 19:1 was taken down last fall after two unnamed residents complained, citing separation of church and state. However, Ottawa County Commissioners voted to have a new sign installed with that verse, along with an additional sign citing the history of the county park and of park land donor Ty Hager, whose trust apparently mandated such a sign. Two civil rights groups have reportedly threatened litigation if this sign is installed.
