GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC) – There will be three contested races in the August 4th Primary Election for spots on the Holland City Council.
Current council members Nancy DeBoer and Bob VandeVusse will vie for the Mayor’s seat as Kurt Dykstra is not seeking reelection, while incumbent at-large Councilman Wayne Klomparens has a challenge from Matt Hefko, and Brian Lynn faces Don Martin for the Fourth Ward spot that VandeVusse is vacating for his mayoral run. Jay Peters and Dave Hoekstra are running unopposed for reelection to their Second and Sixth Ward positions, respectively.
In neighboring Zeeland, Mayor Kevin Klinstra and incumbent council members Sally Gruppen, Mary Beth Timmer and Schyuler Wilson are all running unopposed for reelection.
The statewide deadline for Primary Election candidate filing was 4 PM on Tuesday.
