SAUGATUCK TWP., MI (WHTC) – State DNR and DEQ officials will hold a town hall meeting in the Saugatuck Township Hall off of the Blue Star Highway at 7 PM this evening. They will be going over ways to dredge Kalamazoo Lake in the Saugatuck-Douglas area, along with the Kalamazoo River to its nearby mouth into Lake Michigan. There are concerns not only for silt on the river and lake beds that may have PCB contaminants from paper mills upstream, but also to protect juvenile lake sturgeon that are at perilously low levels.
