HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC) – No injuries were reported as crews from Holland Township, Holland and Park Township brought a fire at a building that once housed a fitness center under control overnight. Investigators believe that the blaze off of 8th Street west of US-31 had been burning inside for some time before a passerby noticed smoke and flames coming through the roof around 2:15 AM. A thunderstorm hampered firefighting efforts.
Local Salvation Army officials were particularly determined to clarify the status about the building status in the wake of the blaze. In a statement emailed to WHTC News, Roger Snider, Public Relations and Communications Director of the ministry’s regional office in Grand Rapids, said, “The fire this morning … in the Ditto Square was owned by The Salvation Army. This building was purchased with a plan to improve and expand the services provided in the southern Ottawa and northern Allegan counties.”
A cause was not yet determined.
