HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) -The Ottawa County Board of Commissioners and two other groups support the statewide road proposal. Proposal 1 asks voters if they want to increase the state sales tax to 7 percent from 6 percent while removing it from fuel.
If the proposal is approved, ten other laws will take effect including restrucuting and more than doubling the 19-cents-a-gallon state gasoline tax and increasing vehicle registration taxes. Schools and municipalities would initially recieve nearly $400 million in additional funding.
The Allegan County Road Commission and the Macatawa Area Coordinating Council have supported the ballot issue.
Voters will go to the polls on May 5th.
