HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A settlement between the Holland Public School district and the Holland Education Association will have 23 teachers, a counselor and a social worker retiring at the end of this school year. As part of this settlement, the more experienced staff were offered a one-time lump sum payment as an incentive to retire.
The new contract between the district and teachers union extends for three years and the incentive is only available for HEA members who choose retire this year. Director of Human Resources and Employee Performance Rich Zuker says the district is anticipating savings from replacing more experienced staff at the top of the pay scale with new teachers at the lower end of the pay scale.
In the 2015-16 and 2016-17 school year, teachers will receive salary increases according to the step scale in their contracts.
