GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC) – A 79-year-old hospice patient pulled from the flames of his burning house near Jenison High School has now died. Sheriff’s deputies erroneously reported that Richard Hallwachs had succumbed at Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital, but he remained alive there until yesterday evening. Hallwachs’ wife and son were killed in December of 2011 in a smoking-related fire at the same Teakwood Drive residence that went up in flames on Wednesday morning. The cause of this fire is undetermined.
