HUDSONVILLE, MI (WHTC) – A 43-year-old Chicagoland man spent the evening at Mercy St. Mary’s Hospital after being injured in a two-vehicle crash just west of Hudsonville.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Brian Buter, Spinivasaro Bellamkonda of Aurora was driving in the left lane of westbound I-196 just past the 32nd Avenue exit when the “check engine” light came on and he saw the emergency median turnaround ahead. As he slowed down for the turn, the vehicle of Anthony Petkus, who claimed that he didn’t see the brake lights ahead of him, rammed Bellamkonda’s vehicle, causing it to slide down an embankment and into a ditch.
The Illinois man was initially listed in stable condition while Petkus, a 38-year-old Holland man, was not hurt. The crash remains under investigation.
