ZEELAND, MI (WHTC) – Voters in Zeeland and surrounding townships approved a 53.5 million-dollar bond request by Zeeland Public Schools on Tuesday. About 18 percent of the eligible voters braved a winter weather advisory for the city and surrounding townships to cast ballots, with 55 percent saying yes and 45 percent saying no. The bond is for safety and security upgrades, along with money for building new elementary classrooms and expanding technology programs. The proposal comes with a nearly one-mill tax increase. ZPS won voter approval for a 20 million-dollar bond request without a tax increase five years ago. Some voting precincts were consolidated for this election in a cost-saving move by the district.
