COOPERSVILLE, MI (WHTC) – A 50-year-old Muskegon man can consider himself fortunate after an industrial accident near Coopersville late this morning
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Dennis Luce, Brent Alan Phies was at the Van Andel Propane facility off of 48th Avenue, handling the propane line from his truck to the main 60 thousand-gallon tank, when the mishap occurred around 11 AM. It appears that shut off valves were not completely turned, causing about 200 to 300 gallons of propane to spill. Phies was taken to Mercy Hospital in Muskegon with burns to his face and neck; he was subsequently treated and released. I-96 in the area was closed for about 10 minutes while the propane leak was addressed, and nearby surface streets were blocked off a little longer as a precaution. The incident remains under investigation.
