GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC) – We’re learning more about the mental state of mind of Matthew Krueger.
The 33-year-old Chicagoland-area man is in the Ottawa County Jail on 75 thousand dollars bond, awaiting a February 24th preliminary hearing on false terrorism and malicious destruction of property charges. They stem from a February 8th incident in which he allegedly smashed his pickup into the gate of the Coast Guard Station in Grand Haven, assaulted two officers, and claimed that his truck was filled with explosives, which it was not. Krueger also allegedly torched the Golden Township residence where he had been staying, and in court documents, he purportedly said that he wanted to kill himself in the flames, but backed down because his dog was inside of the building. Krueger will undergo a competency exam to determine if he will stand trial on arson charges in Oceana County, and he will also have a similar evaluation in Ottawa County.
