UNDATED (WHTC) – Nine of the 10 Holland/Zeeland area high schools will send their varsity basketball teams out onto the court in scheduled boys/girls doubleheaders this evening, with only Calvary Schools of Holland taking the night off. Holland meets Holland Christian at the Holland Civic Center, with the boys’ game airing on 1450 WHTC at 5:40 PM. Saugatuck entertains Gobels, with both games on 92.7 The Van at 5:10 PM. Other match ups include East Kentwood at West Ottawa, Hamilton at Zeeland West, Zeeland East at Grand Rapids Union, Bangor at Fennville and the Potter’s House at Black River.

Hockey action this evening finds the Blackhawks hosting New Jersey at the United Center. Chicago has dropped the first two games of a season-long eight-game homestand, although the setbacks to Arizona and Vancouver came in a shootout and overtime, respectively. In addition, the Griffins are home to San Antonio at Van Andel Arena in the fourth annual Purple Community Game to benefit the Van Andel Institute. It’s the opener of a two-game set versus the Rampage in the Calder City, with the Griffins then visiting Chicago on Sunday evening to conclude a three-games-in-three-nights weekend.
The Detroit Red Wings are back in action tomorrow night when the Winnipeg Jets come to Joe Louis Arena. Hear the game on 1450 WHTC, starting at 6:40 PM.

The NBA and its D-League take the weekend off for the All-Star Game festivities at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The lone Detroit Pistons representative is Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who will play in the Rising Stars Challenge along with Nikola Mirotic of the Bulls. Jimmy Butler and Pau Gasol will represent Chicago on the Eastern Conference team in Sunday’s All-Star Game. The D-League All-Star contest, which will be played before the NBA’s showcase on Sunday, features Willie Reed and Adonis Thomas of the Grand Rapids Drive. The Bulls and Pistons resume regular season play against each other at the Palace next Friday night, while the Drive host Fort Wayne at the DeltaPlex next Thursday.

Scheduled college basketball action tomorrow finds Hope’s women home to Olivet at DeVos Fieldhouse, while the Flying Dutchmen’s game in Alma will be on 92.7 The Van, starting at 7:40 PM. Grand Valley State, fresh from splitting games at Lake Superior State last night, with the women winning but the men losing, are back at the Fieldhouse Arena in Allendale tomorrow evening to entertain Northwood.
