HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC) – A 29-year-old Grand Haven man escaped injury when his car caught on fire after a two-vehicle crash on Holland’s North Side overnight. According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Matt Wildfong, Matthew Meara was northbound on 120th Avenue and was approaching New Holland Street just before 12 Midnight when he swerved to avoid hitting a stopped vehicle ahead of him that was stuck in a snow bank. Meara lost control of his vehicle and slammed head-on into a southbound vehicle, causing it to catch fire. Meara was able to escape safely, and the other driver, 21-year-old Cody Akins of Jenison, was also unhurt. The crash remains under investigation.
