GRAND HAVEN TWP., MI (WHTC) – A 30-year-old trucker from the Chicagoland area blew through a red light on US-31 at Lake Michigan Drive south of Grand Haven this morning and put a 59-year-old Grand Haven Township man on a North Ottawa Community Hospital bed as a result. According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant John Wolffis, Scott Stevens was driving across the divided highway on a green light as Fidel Vizcarra-Ontiveros’ northbound rig was bearing down on him. The truck broadsided the car, pushing both vehicles off of the roadway. A southbound Sheriff’s Deputy stopped for the light witnessed the crash and administered first aid to the stricken motorist. Stevens was initially listed in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries; Vizcarra-Ontiveros was not injured. The crash remains under investigation.
