Accused Murder to Undergo Forensic Exam

GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC) – A now 17-year-old Holland man will undergo a forensic examination to determine if he is competent to stand trial on open murder charges. Victor Donaldson was 16 when he allegedly stabbed 18-year-old Ja’Paris Rodgers along Riley Street on Holland’s North Side last July 31^st. He’s been in custody since his arrest days after the incident, and was moved from the Juvenile Detention facility to the Ottawa County Jail due to safety fears because of other inmates with gang ties; prosecutors believe that the attack was gang-related. Attorney Robert Hamilton told the Holland Sentinel that Donaldson has had some “significant” mental issues that have “manifested” since his arrest. Donaldson is also facing charges of allegedly assaulting a jail deputy. The medical exam was requested last month and has yet to be performed. No date for Donaldson’s trial has been set.
