GRAND HAVEN (WHTC) – The animal adoption manager for the Harbor Humane Society has been ordered to pay back more than 4-thousand-800 dollars that prosecutors say she embezzled from her former employer. Sherri Nietering was sentenced Monday in Ottawa County Circuit Court to 18 months’ probation in connection with the theft from a Grand Haven doctor whom she had worked under as an office manager for more than a decade. Nietering could end up in jail for six months if she doesn’t follow through on her restitution payments. She also must perform 100 hours of community service. Nietering has been on administrative leave from the humane society and there’s no word yet on her employment status.
