HOLLAND (WHTC) – Two years ago, the Holland City Council approved a controversial measure to split the responsibilities for the city’s former human relations coordinator position into two part-time jobs – a 24-hour human relations position and a 12-hour international relations post. Now, the latter position is vacant, and the city is considering merging the two positions into a full-time job. The council plans to vote tonight on the recommendation from City Manager Ryan Cotton. The city manager says the job split did accomplish hundreds of hours of additional service from having a single position, and that the move saved the city $58,000, while at the same time improved diversity among city employees.
