DETROIT (WHTC-AM/FM) – Where are the most dangerous intersections along the Lakeshore?
According to Michigan Auto Law, a law firm aimed at providing legal services for crash victims statewide, the most volatile junction in this region is Beacon Boulevard (US-31) at Jackson Street. The corner, at the southern base of the drawbridge in Grand Haven, saw 55 collisions during 2019, resulting in seven injuries. That is eight more crashes than the intersection of Douglas Avenue and North River Avenue, near the northern base of the Unity Bridge connection Holland’s North Side and the Tulip City, although that corner had three more injuries as a result. The junction of James Street and US-31 on the North Side had the most injuries last year at 15.
In Allegan County, the “most dangerous intersection” in 2019, according to Michigan Auto Law, was US-31 at 32nd Street in Holland, with 39 crashes and eight injuries, followed by M-89 at 12th Street in Otsego with 28 and 5.
Statewide, 19 of the top 20 junctions for crashes are in the Metro Detroit area, topped by Van Dyke Avenue (M-53) at 18½ Mile Road in the northeast suburb of Sterling Heights (229 crashes, 14 injuries) and Telegraph Road (US-24) at Schoolcraft Road (service drive of I-96) in the western suburb of Redford (210/41). The only intersection in that list outside of Metro Detroit is the US-131 exit at Wealthy Street in Grand Rapids (123 crashes, 18 injuries), which was 8th.
