New State Invasive Species Plan Now Online: Patty Birkholz

by Gary Stevens
On the July 14, 2013 public affairs program: A final version of a plan to guide, prevent and manage aquatic invasive species in Michigan is now available online. The new plan, published on the state's website at Michigan-dot-gov, includes new actions to detect and respond to new invaders and try to control what are already here. State DEQ officials note that the ecosystems of the state are already being negatively impacted by the species already present, and there is a big focus on keeping Asian carp out of the Great Lakes. One of those involved in drawing up the proposal was former state lawmaker Patty Birkholz of Saugatuck, who is currently the West Michigan Director of the Michigan League of Conservation Voters.
