Kalamazoo River Oil Spill Concerns (463.0 KB)
Summary
Roughly 840 thousand gallons of oil from a pipeline which sprung a leak this week near Marshall has been found in Kalamazoo County. Could the spill reach the Lakeshore? Allegan County officials say that the oil spill is not expected to get all the way downstream to the mouth of the river near Saugatuck. Measures are being taken to stop the oil at a cosmetic dam and retention pond at Otsego, or at the Consumers Energy hydroelectric dam on Lake Allegan. Still, concerns are there, according to Republican State Representative Bob Genetski of Saugatuck, who talked about the matter with WHTC News Director Gary Stevens.
