New President Talks with New Students: 12 PM News, Sports & Weather 08/26/13

Today's Headlines: About two thousand students and family members attended yesterday’s Opening Convocation at DeVos Fieldhouse, as first-year school president John Knapp talked about “Life Together” of opportunities to learn and grow at Hope; the Policy Committee of the Macatawa Area Coordinating Council held its monthly meeting this morning with collaboration on its mind; the Holland BPW Board will hear about a proposed five-year, 3.5 million-dollar Meter Technology Plan that would eventually lead to the installation of “smart meters; on the eve of an expected vote on Medicaid expansion in the Senate, the TEA Party faction in the state Republican Party may be flexing their muscles; Senator Rick Jones has come in for some criticism since word came from Lansing last week that he and fellow Republican Tom Casperson are cosponsoring legislation that would allow the speed limit on rural highways to be boosted in Michigan; the Tigers are home after making believers out of the Mets in New York over the weekend; the dog days of summer continue along the Lakeshore.
