SPRING LAKE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – International Aid in Spring Lake is shipping supplies to Texas in the wake of hurricane Harvey.
The Christian relief ministry distributes life-saving medicines, hygiene products, nutritional supplements and reconditioned medical equipment to hundreds of ministries and humanitarian organizations in areas of greatest need.
Brian Anderson President and CEO left Tuesday afternoon for Texas to meet with their partners and so far they have committed seven semi-truck loads of product to the relief efforts.
Hygiene kits are what is needed most right now as more and more people become displaced. Area businesses and school donate many of the personal hygiene items throughout the year and volunteers pack them up and off they go on pallets to be shipped to areas in need.
Monetary donations let’s International Aid get the supplies to where they are needed..
“All of the supplies needs to go on a truck either to get it here ro get it down to Texas and that cost money. In a disaster situation, when highways are closed, just like we see with fuel costs, the logistic costs go up tremendously.”
So far they have shipped the following:
- 12 pallets of hygiene kits, that consists of shampoo, soap, wash cloth, a comb, and toothbrush and toothpaste
- 16 pallets of hand soap
- 8 pallets of antibacterial liquid soap
- 2 pallets of paper products
- Cleaning tools – mops, ringers and buckets
- 11 pallets of bedding
- 1 truckload of baby food
- 4 truckloads of cleaning disinfectant wipes
- 2 truckloads of protein bars and shakes
- 17,000 children books and devotionals
- More than 20,000 of assorted personal care items like shampoo, conditioner, and tooth care items
