UNDATED (WHTC-AM/FM) – Two persons were hospitalized in separate single-vehicle crashes about three and a half hours apart on Saturday.
The first wreck came around 11 AM, when a car heading south on 168th Avenue lost control near Hayes Street south of Grand Haven, veered to the left, struck a stop sign, then careened to the right and landed on its side in a nearby, six-foot-deep ditch. The driver, initially identified as a 20-year-old Norton Shores man, was taken in stable condition to North Ottawa Community Hospital. Investigators believe that the motorist had suffered an undescribed medical condition prior to the accident.
The second crash occurred after 2 PM in Tallmadge Township, when the steering in a northbound car on 8th Avenue, driven by 20-year-old Keegan Nason of Grand Rapids, suddenly gave way just before Leonard Street. Nason tried to regain control of the vehicle, but it ended up in a ditch. The unbuckled motorist was taken in stable condition to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment of upper body injuries.
Both crashes remain under investigation.
