SPRING LAKE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A rollover crash east of Spring Lake looked worse than it was on Tuesday morning.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Brian Buter, 67-year-old Donald Irwin of Muskegon was southbound on 148th Avenue and stopped his pickup truck for the red light on M-104 Cleveland Street around 9:20 AM as 27-year-old Dawn Dameron of Greenly, Colorado was driving her SUV eastbound on a green light through the intersection. “For an unknown reason, Irwin thought that the light had changed to green and struck the Dameron vehicle on the driver’s side with his front end,” Buter said. “This action caused the Dameron vehicle to overturn and come to rest east of 148th Avenue.
First responders were initially told by dispatchers that several infants were pinned inside of the rolled-over vehicle, but when they arrived, they were able to safely remove a one-year-old and a five-month old child inside of that vehicle. The children, along with both drivers, were treated for just bumps and bruises at the scene, perhaps a credit to the fact that all involved were either buckled up or properly seated in child restraint seats.
Buter added that Irwin was ticketed for disregarding a traffic control device.
