MUSKEGON, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The presumptive Democratic challenger to Congressman Bill Huizenga has put forward what his campaign is calling “common-sense measures” to help prevent gun violence.
Spring Lake-based Dr. Rob Davidson unveiled his proposal yesterday that includes revoking what he calls gun manufacturers’ “near total immunity” from accountability; enforcing and enhancing background checks for all gun sales; banning military-style, high-powered “weapons of war,” including high-capacity magazines; more funds for mental health programs and behavioral medicine resources in schools; and restoring research into gun violence and public health by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.
Dr. Davidson made this announcement in Muskegon, considered to be one of the Democratic strongholds in a Congressional district that has been solidly Republican for decades. Both he and the four-term Zeeland incumbent Huizenga have submitted petition signatures to be on the November ballot, with no other serious challengers expected.
