HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – One of the necessary drawbacks from renovating railroad crossings is periodic road and lane closures.
Motorists coming into downtown Holland from the Eastern Gateway near the junction of East 8th Street and Chicago Drive will be experiencing such an inconvenience over the next few weeks. Beginning today, Chesapeake and Ohio railroad workers will be causing intermittent lane closures on 8th Street while working on the Hamilton Spur crossing next to Fairbanks Avenue. Holland city staffers were told by the railroad that the work should be complete by April 6th, depending on the weather, and they advise motorists to possibly choose an alternate route to avoid potential travel delays.
In recent years, CSX crews have worked on the main Chicago-Grand Rapids line crossings on 8th and 9th Streets near Lincoln Avenue, as well as other crossings in the general Holland area.
