EAST LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A long-time Allegan High teacher, coach and athletic director has earned a high state honor.
Gary Ellis’ latest accolade comes from the Michigan High School Athletic Association, who will give him its Charles Forsythe Award for outstanding contributions to the interscholastic athletics community during the state boys basketball finals at the Breslin Center in East Lansing on March 24th. Ellis has served the Tigers with distinction for around four decades as a math, history and government teacher, a girls and boys tennis coach, and two separate stints as AHS’ athletic director. He has earned numerous honors for his coaching, teaching and community service.
Ellis is just the fourth person from the Lakeshore to receive the Forsythe Award in its 41-year history, joining Steven Sluka of Grand Haven, Jack Streidl of Plainwell and Tom Hickman of Spring Lake.
